A Few Wireless LAN Solution Considerations

Having access to the internet has become so normal for most people they are lost without it. What used to take a phone line, or a cable line with a cord connecting a computer to a router, has evolved into the ability to connect wirelessly. This provides the ability to connect to the world wide web regardless of where you are and with many different devices. Of course, this ability does not come without limitations and/or its own problems. There are a few different options available for creating a Local Area Network (LAN) for your business. To ensure your company offers the best wireless LAN solution for the employees, here are a few things to consider before deciding which option is best for your situation.

Coverage

If your company consists of one building on the property and the employees work there all the time, your coverage needs will be different than if you had multiple buildings or your employees often work outside the office. If you find that the system you have access to use at your location is not able to provide the coverage you need, it is possible to get an extender that will ensure there is internet access where it is needed.

Security

When you use any type of wireless network, you risk the security of the business. However, there are many different types of security protocols to ensure that everything is as safe as possible. Discuss any security concerns with the internet provider. If necessary, ask them to put extra or special protocols in place for your business. Make sure they will also conduct regular security assessments as people are constantly figuring out ways to get around security systems.

Users

It is important to know how many users will be accessing the LAN at any given time. The more users, the slower the system may run. In addition to the number of users, you need to know what kind/type of devices they will be using to connect to the internet. If your business has devices in place that will need to connect to each other, such as a point-of-sale system, make sure the network you have in place will be able to keep everything connected. Some devices will have special requirements for the connection.

More than ever it is important to understand the LAN system in place for your business. As the business grows, and internet protocols change, you may need to update the system or protocols. The better the system runs, the easier it is for your employees to get their work done in a timely manner.
